Stunning Fields of Rice Art – CBC Video

Rice farming has sustained the people of northern Japan's Inakadate village for two thousand years. Today, the ancient rice fields are the source of food and art.I just watched this video the other day, local farmers in a small village in Japan plant intricate art in their rice paddies using different coloured rice plants!

It’s absolutely amazing and so beautiful!  They make it a family affair as they involve all the villagers to plant the rice shoots.  It’s sad that this only has a three month expectancy before they have to harvest.

My First Artfire Sale and Kudos Comment

clothespin - flower (1)

A few months ago, I decided to give Artfire a try.  Artfire is a online marketplace for handmade goods, similar to Etsy

I just got my first sale a couple of weeks ago for some decorative flower clothespins.  Today the buyer must have just received it as I got also got my first Kudos (Artfire’s term for positive feedback).

I know it’s small, but I like to enjoy any positive thing that happens in my life.  Life’s too short and it was such a great feeling.  It was a great highlight to my weekend!

Did anything happen that made you feel great this weekend?

That 1%

[the-customer-is-always-right-quote-unknown-8876[6].jpg]Back in July 2010, I wrote a entry on my main blog about that 1% of every business transaction that goes awry and what should you do about it.

That 1%

I hope you enjoy it!

My Daughter’s Handmade Birthday Cards!

We held a birthday party for our daughter last week!  Originally it was to be a BBQ, but it rained for the first time in weeks on that weekend!  I would love to show you some of the handmade cards she received!

This was was made by our friend Twyla,  I love this card, you can see it’s a popsicle with a yummy bite out it!

These two were handcrafted by two friends who just arrived in Canada a few months ago

My brother drew a picture of a cat on the envelope, and he got this animal balloon monkey for her!  Okay he didn’t make the balloon animal, but it’s so cute!  My daughter loves it!

I did have one more handmade card, but I chose not to post it.  I have a personal policy of not displaying my children’s photos.  Charmaine from Lucky Charms Card Collection made this beautiful card and the centre piece was a beautiful photo of my daughter on the front.  She embellished flowers around her photo.  I couldn’t figure out how to post it without taking away it’s beauty.  Thank you Charmaine!

It’s Friday the 13th!

I thought it would be fun to see what the search “Friday the 13th” would show up on Etsy.  Most searches came up with Jason Voorhess, the psychotic serial killer from the Friday the 13th horror flick franchise!  I love the keychain :)

Origami Design: Tine De Ruysser's Banknote Jewellery Collection

A fellow member of Money Folder’s Yahoo group forwarded this article about an European artist, Tine De Ruysser, who made jewellery out of banknotes.   My favourite are the US Bill bracelets!

Ruysser folded her jewellery in true origami purist fashion.  No cuts, no glue and they will have longevity as money paper is designed to withstand years of wear and tear.

      Quentin Tarantino: Inglourious Basterds

We just recently watched the Quentin’s Tarantino’s movie, Inglourious Basterds.  It’s focused on a American-Jewish aligned military group stationed in France during WWII.  Their mission: spread fear and terror among Nazi soldiers during their occupation in France in WWII.  There is an overlapping plot of a Jewish woman in hiding who wanted revenge for what the Nazi military has done to her family.   I really enjoyed this movie, how Tarantino scripts the dialogue in all his movies is so entertaining.

I thought it would be fun to see if I searched the movie title on Etsy.  I was delighted to see artwork that’s based on this movie!
